Why does any company get marketing done? They want to increase their business. They want to get more sales. They want to make their business grow or create a strong name for themselves in the marketplace. But in the end the number one reason is really that they want to make more money. More sales, after all, equal more money, and more money equals a growing business. This is perfectly fine, and really what rests behind any kind of marketing, but the real question is whether or not this is all you’re thinking about when you create your marketing? If you open a business with the intention of just making a lot of money than you’re probably going to be in for a big surprise. Running a business is not only hard work, but takes a kind of dedication you just can’t get when monetary value is your only concern. The same goes for marketing. Generating money should always be a sort of unspoken part of marketing your business, and never the primary part of it. If all you have in mind is more sales for more money than people are going to notice, and they’re going to understand that you don’t really care about them or their business beyond how it can help you. This isn’t the way you run a marketing campaign, and this certainly isn’t the way you run a successful one. Say you’re about to get poster printing done. You need to have a focus for your poster that will help attract customers. Now, are you just going to push them to come in and buy something, or are you going to figure out a way that your business can help them. Find something in their lives that you can help improve for them. Maybe you’re making things easier for them, or maybe you’re helping them save money. There are all sorts of different ways you can encourage a person to come in, and sometimes it’s just by saying you’re going to treat them with respect and give them the best service possible. The point is that you’re focusing on your customers and not yourself. Your getting poster printing done to show them that you can help them rather than just figuring out a way to pad your pocket book. Yes, in the end if you make more customers happy you’ll naturally get more business and therefore generating more revenue, but this shouldn’t ever be the primary point in your marketing. The next time you sit down to organize a marketing push stop to ask yourself how you can help your customers. Ask yourself what their concerns are, and what you can do to make sure you can make their lives a little better. Do that and you’ll have a successful marketing message on your hands.
