E-lecture is an instructional facet that is revolutionizing distance learning. The postal service was developed in the 19th century. Before then, distance learning was a major challenge for student and teacher alike. Problems associated with communication and transfers of correspondence were incessant. This did not end, but it was relatively checked when post improved. But the Internet makes this all look like a lot of ado about nothing.

The University of Wisconsin, Madison was the home of Charles Wedemeyer who founded the Articulated Instructional Media (AIM) back in 1964. It was funded by the Carnegie Foundation and at lasted for a good four years. Wedemeyer is today considered the father of modern distance education in America because her brought in a variety of communications technologies aimed at providing learning to off-campus populations, that were not there before.

Synchronous technology helps to propagate concurrent education at different places but at the same time. The flip side is asynchronous technology, which offers the same services, but with the added convenience of students receiving information at different times. Both approaches are used extensively in distance education.

Exams are difficult to regulate – even when they are not distance learning. Accreditation is an important feature of distance learning program. An accreditation board draws the line between quality and worthless education. A distance learning program that is not accredited hardly gains any consideration or respect for that matter.

Printing has been around for eons, and there was a time when for distance learning, you as a lecturer simply had to print you notes and send them to your students anywhere they were.
