Double Check the Details

The most common mistake I’ve noticed when it comes to advertisements of any kind is in the general details and contact information.

The headlines are perfect along with the basic sales pitch. You can tell that these are the things that were giving the most attention to, being sure to get them just right, and by doing so they ended up completely forgetting about how they spelled certain names or whether their phone number was accurate.

It’s amazing how many phone numbers are wrong on the various advertisements that people put up, and this is even more astonishing when you see these mistakes on things like posters. The reason I say this is because posters naturally have a lot less you have to pay attention to than let’s say brochures.

The reason this is the case I’m sure is that things like poster printing need to have strong visuals and images to get a person to look at them to begin with. For pretty much any advertisement the greatest hurdle is in getting someone to take notice of your advertisement. If no one sees it than no one bothers to read anything at all.

This is why so much attention is given to anything that’ll help you get someone to look over, and then give your message as quickly as possible. The hope is that a person will only need to glance at the poster to take in what it has to say.

That’s perfectly fine, but what about the people who actually stop to read the entire thing? The people who take the most interest and want to read everything on your poster. These are the people who end up calling wrong numbers or noticing that you misspelled something in your contact information.

I can think of very few other things that can kill a sale as fast as that, because it shows the company didn’t check everything enough.

Whether we’re talking about poster printing or long booklets you have to be sure that every single little detail has been double checked as many times as possible. Don’t pick out a single aspect of your advertisement to double check while ignoring everything else.

Sure, the headline might be one of the most important details, but I would hope that your contact information is fairly high up there on your list as well. If someone can’t contact you than what else really matters?

Before you finish up with any piece of marketing make a list that covers every aspect of it and make sure you run through it. Have two people look through everything to be sure you don’t let a mistake slip through your fingers. Even the smallest mistake can become a giant eyesore if enough people take notice of it.
