Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is a method of minor auto dent repair without painting. It is quicker and cheaper than traditional bump and paint methods, but one must consider the drawbacks. The quality isn’t always as good, leaving the customer disappointed in something they paid for. Sometimes, it’s better to pay a little more for better quality. PDR is an acceptable form of repair in some cases. However, in many cases, PDR leaves the vehicle with visible damage or areas that will show visible damage after weathering and aging. Techniques for dent repair and scratch repair without paint repair only work in some situations. The degree of success in PDR depends on the amount of damage done to the paint and the flexibility of the paint and metal. PDR can be effective to prepare the vehicle for painting or as a cheap solution to dent repair. Disadvantages of Paintless Dent Repair Only acceptable under limited circumstances Works with dents dime-sized to 3 inches in diameter only Often becomes necessary to paint later Only works with certain metals and paints Not useful for dents with paint chips, scratches or creasing Greater chance of visible damage after weathering and aging Only slightly cheaper, with far less quality than traditional dent repair So, the disadvantages of PDR are obvious. Consumers should consider using a company who paints all body repairs to avoid future issues with the damaged area. Skipping the final, finishing step of painting the vehicle just results in visible damage later and it increases the possibility of rust. When determining the company to use for your small body repairs, consider the cost, convenience, and processing time of the company. Look for a shop that offers immediate service at competitive pricing. Make sure the repair shop you choose does not use PDR techniques and that the work is a warranty that guarantees the repair against future visible damages and paint flaking.
